In Foal?

Hello Franklin,

A friend of mine bought two female horses from the same owner about a month ago. All of a sudden one of the horses started to become larger in the belly and he does not know if it became pregnant before he purchased it. How would he beable to tell if the horse is and how long does a horse carry a baby? If you know of how to help that would be great and any information that we could find would help also. Thank you very much for your time.

Tina

Hi Tina,

Gestation period for horses is 11 months. Being prey animals, horses do have the ability to speed up or slow down exact delivery to make it as safe a time to deliver as possible. The only way to know for sure if this horse is with foal is to have it vet checked. I would definately have this done ASAP to make sure all is fine for the horse. Good Luck.....

Sincerely, Franklin
