Learning Bridleless Riding
Here are a few words on what bridle-less riding did for me:
The process from bridle to halter to neck-rope to nothing was surprisingly fast and easy. My horse is a high level jumper. In English riding there is constant contact with the horse's mouth. Letting go of years of training that said to hold the horse's mouth felt strange at first. It was frightening, exhilarating, and liberating all at once. The most amazing (and unexpected) part was how much the horses seemed to enjoy it. The first time my horse and I cantered around with nothing but a neck-rope, he playfully tossed his head and stuck out his tongue. He loved it!
I had always considered myself to have a close relationship with my horses. But the level of trust and the true partnership that emerges from Bridle-less riding exists at a higher and more intimate level. It is truly liberating for both horse and rider.
My horse and I are closer and work more as a team now that ever before.Ê There has also been dramatic improvement with our in-bridle work. There is a subtlety and sensitivity in the bridle because both horse and rider know they could be doing to same exercises without it.
Thank you for the contribution you have made to my life and that of my horses.
Laena E.
