Seemingly great groundwork, but problems with riding?.
our groundwork is going great. ...He is extremely responsive to my cues and is a definite pleaser. However, we run into problems while riding. The main problem is staying on the rail and counter bending/listening to my leg. He stays on the rail one direction, but he occasionally veers off going the other direction....

Extreme messing about in (and out) the pasture.
...Recently, he has been getting over excited when someone approaches the field, and has also been galloping at people, turning around and bucking/kicking... He has also shown no fear of jumping fences to get out of the field, could this be because he is just bored? ...He has been known to mess about in the field but not to this extent..

Ex-racehorse still on the track in its mind.
...he gets extremely difficult to handle if we come across other riders when we're out hacking (which is all I do with him as I just want a quiet life). He's fine if they're going in the opposite direction but if they're ahead and going in the same direction he becomes too excited and just wants to run and join them... .

Horse rearing when asked to lead group.
...Recently the horse has been developing a bad habit of rearing up on it's hind legs when ever it doesn't want to do something ... This is especially true when my mom wants to take the lead in a group of 4 or more....

Dangerous horse getting started under saddle.
...when I try to put anything on or near his back, he accepts saddle pads on his neck and even over his face but put it on his back and he rears, not only does he rear but he challenges me by spinning on his back legs and striking out whilst rearing,....

Hard to catch horse.
If you can catch him, he will let you brush him, and lift his feet, etc, but the problem is catching him. He is getting harder and harder to catch, and today we actually failed. We built a smaller pen inside the pasture but now he just turns his rear towards us like he is threatening to kick!.

How do you get a young horse to except the bridle?.
...He does not let anybody near him when they have a bridle in their hand. ...We have tried to tie the bit to his halter and let him run around with that, thinking it was the bit that he was scared of but he was fine with the bit. It is the bridle itself....

Unwanted behavior from a lesson horse.
...In the past 2 weeks, my normally placid gelding has exhibited some unusual behaviour. He bolted with a lesson student, pins his ears, has tried to bite the farm caretaker, and supposedly tried to crush her in the gate.....

Aggressive new horse.
...when im in the yard the younger mare is getting very nasty in biting and charging my other mare away which is really frustrating me as my older mare doesnt fight back....

Grief and horses.
Thursday night the colt was killed by a pack of coyotes. We own two Great Pyranees and we believe that they may have ran down there and frightened them off after the fact but the heartbreaking fact is the colt was killed....
